Barb Wilkins

Senior Mental Wellbeing Counsellor

Barb is an integrative counsellor with over 25 years’ experience supporting adults and young people across education and youth services. She has a particular focus on working with young adults in educational settings and with neurodivergent clients, supported by a BA (Hons) in Special Education Studies.

Her path into counselling was shaped by a longstanding instinct to support others through difficult moments. Known early on as “Auntie Barb” at school, she became a trusted figure for those needing a safe and confidential space to talk. That natural ability has remained a constant throughout her career.

Alongside her counselling work, Barb has extensive experience in education and youth projects, as well as supporting adults, often parents and carers navigating complex challenges. Her academic and professional background continues to inform an approach that is inclusive, thoughtful, and grounded.

Barb works in a client-centred way, beginning with each individual’s story, needs, and goals. Rather than applying a single model, she draws on evidence-based approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), allowing the work to remain flexible and responsive.

She works collaboratively with clients to set clear and realistic goals, enabling progress to be recognised over time. Her experience includes supporting individuals with anxiety, low mood, depression, trauma, and more complex or long-standing mental health difficulties, as well as those navigating overwhelm, life transitions, or simply needing space to reflect and regain clarity.

Clients can expect a confidential, compassionate, and non-judgemental environment. Barb balances practical tools with emotional insight, always respecting each person’s pace and readiness. Sessions are delivered via secure online video, providing a private and accessible way to engage in counselling.

Outside of her professional work, Barb values simple, grounding self-care. She enjoys walking in the woods, as well as journalling, reading, writing, and crocheting. She shares her home with a crested gecko with a notably lively personality and considers rest and sleep an important part of maintaining balance.
